By Julio César Pavanetti Gutiérrez

From absent stars that leave no trace
in nights without moon in the sky.
From candles stifled in the candleholders
in lonely and sleepless nights.
From insomnia shards,
from their black whips:
Wounded from life, verses come to me.
IN A VERSE
By Julio César Pavanetti Gutiérrez (Uruguay)
I’ve wanted to write my thoughts,
raising the questions that disturb me,
denouncing outrages and injustices,
showing my rebellion opposite to the excess,
my absolute rejection of despotism,
my tenacious indignation against the corrupt.
I’ve wanted to express my discrepancies,
philosophizing, seeking light in the shadows,
facing the transitions of the body,
finding answers to my doubts.
I’ve wanted to leave only one verse
–knowing that I am only dust–
a message of love for the future
before settling into my gloom.
I’ve wanted, sharpening my conscience,
to calculate the distance between life and death
that fits into a poet,
but today I am mutilated
by discouragement and shame.
Just warm the sun behind the afternoon scaffold.
Affliction is a puddle that shadow enlarges
and hinders my purpose
of stubborn search of the poem
witness of my last will.

She comes on behalf of all women
at the time the neon lights come on
and the lilies of light get old.
With the sensual panache
that the swan has
she always arrives on time as the beat
when the day declines and bleeds,
clearing the streets for the nocturnal,
bohemian, and lonely man.
Covered by a luminous veil
that splashes her skin of transparencies,
the woman of the poem seduces me
with her voluptuous walk,
her flaming gaze and her incarnate lips.
Under that tulle,
made of sleep and dew,
comes to give me shelter
and save me of the dark
and silent atmosphere
that wraps my estrus many times.
It seems the night never ends
but finally, the verses always surface
wildly mating with my muse.
LOOK FOR ME
After the hecatomb of the verb
after the endless deafness,
after the voice of cracked rain,
look for me among the remains of silver
dropped off, quietly, by the moon caress
Look for me in the spoils of the wind
when the end comes,
and wings vibrate and shake;
look for me in the infinitude of time
when sound trembles in the day,
and, once again, the word reborn.
We used to be very good friends
always on the verge
of something more
but that
never happened
The other day at a bar
after many years without seeing her
there she was
sitting with someone
I don’t know if she recognized me
but looked to me for a moment
and looked away
TIME HAD NO FEAR
Time had no fear.
The moon arrived circular and pale
with its silver alchemy watering ether,
embracing and covering its being.
A bright reflection
falling dormant over the water.
capsular and persistent chalices,
alluvion of small white flowers.
A diffused horizon
painted the dormant breeze
between the remaining light
of the languished dawn.
Near the stream,
the myrtle dispersed its fragrance.
Its constant and lustrous foliage
made believe it brought down the twilight
in its ephemeral crossing.
Suddenly she emerged
from the humid summer hours,
my breath stopped and I fell like a cloud
that stumbles with the sky.
She descended slowly
like dew landed in my soul
alighted on my bare skin.
Since then, heaven is contained in me.
She was moon and sun, air and water,
immutable light that covered the sphere.
Time, amazed, forgot its own existence.
AT THE TIME WHEN EARTH GOES TO HEAVEN
“…at nightfall, all vegetables cover
stars with their cloak;
the earth to heaven rises”
Miguel de UNAMUNO
At the time when earth goes to heaven
and the sea receives particles of the moon
our quiet abandonment becomes sweetened
as the rain kisses a palm tree.
The cloth of your back becomes silky
with the subtle swaying of my caresses
that read every pore of your body.
A tremor fractures in our lips
when my kisses collide with your kisses,
and a lightning- sun of my metaphors –
brings light to the universe of your womb.
The silver silence of the night
guarantees our intimate secrecy
at the time when earth goes to heaven.
带着斗篷的星星;
NOCTURNAL
Searching for translucid fireflies
far beyond innocent latitudes,
you discovered the fold in my hands
as they fled the redness of the afternoon
like white fragments of hail
dancing in crystal bowls.
I consumed the secret of your pores.
I peered into the rails of your body
through intense desire,
travelled the long paths of your skin
falling defeated by your lips,
in the clear spume of the night.
When the finch raises its triumphant tune,
we drown in horizons.
IN THOSE DAYS
“Memories, even those
of my most remote childhood,
are in me a passionate present”.
Federico GARCÍA LORCA
In those days we were
the innocent guests,
silent spectators
of an immutable sun
that offered in every dawn,
all the beauty to the world.
The early birds,
with their wings of dew
and impetuous beat,
sang to the dreams.
In every new twilight
the flowering jasmine
confided to the breeze
its essence of moonlight
while the kisses,
those, authors of the universe,
fell upon us
spinning like a feather.
NOCTURNAL ORBIT
A candlelight illuminates the bedroom
projecting its light against your breast,
slowly swaying through the contrasting waves
that dance in silence.
Your body embroiders with kisses the night,
at my side, laying on the bed
you sleep placidly and naked
in an almost photographic pose.
While outside the cold trembles and cries
with frozen solid mechanical tears,
as a small dewdrop
slightly grazing our layers,
my lips slide through
every pore of your golden flesh,
awakening your hidden clouds
just before daylight falls over the world.
YOUR EYES
The afternoon falls from its infinity
behind the great river
that today descends quietly.
Your eyes drown me in the cusp
and the peace of its sunny reservoir.
To sail in them, get tired of counting waves,
breathing in the curve of your lids,
closing mine to find you in my dreams.
Become a survivor to be rescued
when the light corners in silence
and the ceiba tree sleeps
in the multiform magnet of the water.
Tear down the empires of its haze,
submerging in the dance of its mirror
to deepen the gaze of the stars that inhabit you.
To air its pearls,
eternalize my eyes in yours,
immerse in them
and feel that I am … You.
SURRENDER
I wonder if the stars
discovered your big dark eyes
or is it your soul that emits its sparkles
like a serene moon.
I wonder if the moon sprinkles your black hair
with the burning reflection of its flesh
naked as a caress
or is it lighting candles
seated in the parapets of insomnia
while searching in the dim room
the verses of a poem.
I wonder if it is her glance
that pierces the air with love
or is it yours that loves me
when you observe me as the sun at dawn?
I only know that at the sound
of the melodic notes that spring
from your skin, I submit to your lips…
and surrender to your night.
COOL NIGHTS OF MARCH
The moon balanced over the river
entangling its dancing petals with sable strands
that painted your face with shadows
and light in a smooth contrast.
As the cool breeze of March nights
colored your cheeks like cherries,
you gave me a green light
allowing me to swim
between the warm waves of your lips.
JUST THE TWO OF US
Only rain
outside our world
just the two of us
within the intimate universe
of our umbrella
